Bujanovac – The entire area of the village of Klenike, which has over 5,000 inhabitants, has not had a direct public transportation line to Bujanovac, which is the seat of the municipality, for several years.
The "Kavim Jedinstvo" transportation company from Vranje, which is the largest regional carrier, does not have a direct bus line from the Klenike area to Bujanovac, but only two bus departures daily from Radovnica and Prohor Pcinjski to Vranje.
The residents of Klenike say that this problem is particularly noticeable now, at the beginning of the school year, because a large number of students from the area attend the "Saint Sava" secondary school in Bujanovac. They use various coping strategies to reach Bujanovac, especially to return home.
“The children are forced to wait for the bus that comes from Radovnica and Trgoviste and goes to Vranje, as well as to get off that bus in Davidovac, where they wait another bus to Bujanovac. However, the largest problem is the return home, especially when children attend classes in the afternoon”, said the mother of a secondary school student from the area.
Private van carriers ceased operating in the area because of the complicated procedure for obtaining the license.
It is also difficult to obtain permits for a regular scheduled bus transportation because of the necessary permits of the local self-governments through whose territory the buses pass, but also the approval of the competent offices and institutions from Belgrade.
Sasa Arsic, the Leader of the local community of Klenike, says that no one can force private companies to introduce a line if it is a losing deal.
“Kavim Jedinstvo probably expects a grant from the municipality to establish a direct line to Bujanovac, "said Mr. Arsic, who is also the Bujanovac municipal councilor.
