Bujanovac, Vranje – Due to a great deal of killed fish, large specimen of white fish floated, yesterday, down the South Morava River from Bujanovac to Vladicin Han.

Until late in the afternoon, residents of the villages situated in the direction of Vranjska Spa waded in the river filling their bags with the woozy fish, which they took home with them. Fishermen were those who reported the killed fish to the municipal police in Vranje.   As they fished, they noticed the dazed and dead fish in the South Morava River, near the village of Zlatokop. Although the cause of the dead fish is not yet officially known, there are indications that one of Bujanovac pollutants released toxic chemicals into the river.

Ivica Taskovic, the Head of Municipal Police in Vranje, said that all competent inspection services had been immediately informed of the unfortunate event.  Experts of the Institute of Public Health received from the City Administration orders to examine samples of the contaminated water.

The city authorities appealed to residents of the villages not to consume the unexamined fish, which could threaten their health.
