Bujanovac – Implementation of the Project of Technical Inspection of the “Uski potok” location in the northern part of the municipality of Bujanovac, which is 275,800 square meters large and which is suspected of being contaminated with ordnance left over from 2001/2002, when the former Liberation Army of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja fought against regular security forces of the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, started.

According to Jovica Simonovic, Director of the Mine Action Center of the Republic of Serbia, inspection will be carried out on that site over the next 10 to 15 days, and then the work is to be done on a 130,000 m2 large location of “Ravno Vucje”.

“That is the plan for this year, and if the suspicion of the existence of ordnance is confirmed, the work will continue in 2018, "Mr. Simonovic said.

“Continued work will depend on donor funding,” says Radislav Ilic, Director of the Belgrade –based "Saturnija", the contractor, which should be completed by November 27, 2017.

"The terrain is very difficult. We do not have any official information. It was once confirmed that an anti-tank mine killed a soldier of the Army of Serbia. Our task is to inspect the size of the territory contaminated with ordnance, "Mr. Ilic said.

Boban Pavlovic, Deputy Mayor of Bujanovac, who along with representatives of the municipal staff for emergencies attended the event of launching the said project, recalled that 12 locations in the area of the municipality of Bujanovac had been cleared from ordnance so far, as well as that five locations, those in the villages of Borovac, Konculj, Turija, Lucane and Brisic, remained to be cleared.   At the same time, Mr. Pavlovic thanked the Governments of the Republic of Serbia and the United States, which are the donors of the technical inspection project, as well as the contractor.
