CONTRIBUTION FOR AWARDING ANNUAL MEDIA AWARDS OF THE  COMMISSIONER FOR THE PROTECTION OF EQUALITY (DEADLINE: September 5, 2019)

On the occasion of November 16th, the International Day of Tolerance, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, awards, for the fifth year in a row, the Annual Media Award for Best Media Texts and Reports on the topic of combating discrimination and promoting equality and tolerance.

On the occasion of November 16th, the International Day of Tolerance, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, awards, for the fifth year in a row, the Annual Media Award for Best Media Texts and Reports on the topic of combating discrimination and promoting equality and tolerance.  

Eligible to participate are male and female journalists from all printed and electronic, local and national media registered in Serbia, who published texts/reports on the topic of the competition, in the period from September 5, 2018 to September 5, 2019. Several male and female journalists from the same media outlet can take part in the competition, but only with one report/text.

Criteria on the basis of which the participants will be evaluated are: recognition of the phenomenon of discrimination, contribution to the reduction of stereotypes and prejudices, affirmative reporting, promotion of equality and the use of gender sensitive language.  Radio and television reports, which are 3 minutes long at the most, and radio and television stories, which are 30 minutes long at the most, will be taken into consideration.  

Media articles and reports should be sent in the period from June 5 to September 5, 2019 to poverenik@ravnopravnost.gov.rs.

The application for the competition should contain a media report /text and a short CV with the male/female author's contacts. Application form: for radio and television – link with broadcast report, for printed and online media – link and published text in PDF format.  

Male/female winners of the first prize will visit the institutions and media outlets of one of the European countries that has good practices in the protection of human rights.

Prizes are awarded in three categories:

  • First, second and third for radio/TV coverage;
  • First, second and third for print text on the Internet;
  • First, second and third for radio/TV coverage of up to 30 minutes.

The best media coverage at the competition and the names of male and female authors will be announced at the Annual Conference of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality on November 16th, the International Tolerance Day, as well as on the website and Facebook page of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the OSCE Mission.
