Representatives of the Romany, Albanian and Bulgarian ethnic minorities from South Serbia presented in Prokuplje the „Together Towards Inter-culturing“ project, which is aimed at making the cooperation among ethnic minorities closer and the connections among them stronger. The project, which the EU financially supported with 40,000 EUR, is aimed at developing trust among national minorities, regardless of the cultural, social and religious diversity.

Leskovac – The hardest thing to do in South Serbia, particularly in the area around Leskovac, as well as in Vranje, Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, is to create new jobs. That is why the most important activity of the business entities from the Jablanica and Pcinj districts is going to be preservation of the current jobs and the ensuring of conditions for the new ones. Goran Jovic, the President of the Regional Chamber of Commerce, also said that 65,000 persons were currently looking for jobs, while 72, 000 persons were employed.

Bujanovac – Isuf Fetahu from Bujanovac and Momcilo Janjic from the nearby village of Ljiljance cemented their long friendship with a joint business. They jointly built the first multiethnic plant in Serbia “Herba buja” in the Serbian village of Ljiljance, which is well-known for its numerous springs of mineral water. The plant began working in March 2011.

On January 12, 2012, ten male and female interns, who are part of the Internship Program that is implemented at the institutions of the Republic of Serbia, visited the Protector of Citizens’ Office, where they talked with Goran Basic, the Deputy Protector of Citizens. Given that the Protector of Citizens’ offices had been opened in Novi Pazar, Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, where the interns come from, it was particularly important for those young people to learn about the Protector of Citizen’s activities and the issues that he encounters while working in those municipalities.

The “Desanka Maksimovic” elementary school is the only school in the municipality of Bujanovac where classes are held in both Serbian and Albanian. The school was built in 1936, while the classes in Albanian began to be held in the 1970’s. The school had the greatest number of schoolchildren at the end of the 1970’s. It has an outpost in the village of Biljaca, and both the schoolchildren and teachers commend the excellent working conditions there. The school was fully renovated in 2003.

Leskovac – The “Frikom” company said that it would donate today frozen vegetables to the community kitchen in Leskovac, and that it would, as part of the “One Dinar for Community Kitchens” activity, donate two tons of frozen string beans to community kitchens throughout Serbia. The above-mentioned vegetables are intended for Leskovac, Vladicin Han, Vranje, Bujanovac, Trgoviste and Medvedja.

THE ACTIVITY OF PUTTING UP ELEVATORS FOR DISABLED PERSONS IN BUJANOVAC0

At the end of November 2011, 38 young persons, who are involved in the Youth Build Serbia project, started putting up elevators for disabled persons (EDP) at the entrance of the health center in Bujanovac. This group of young people undergoes a three-month training, which is a part of the Youth Build project. The training is provided in the municipalities of Presevo and Bujanovac by the Civic Initiatives organization.
