The Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja organized for the students of the Faculty of Economics’ department in Bujanovac a two-day visit to their parent faculty. The visit of students of the Bujanovac department to Subotica is one more Coordination Body’s activity aimed at providing the necessary conditions to Bujanovac students for receiving quality education and exchanging experiences with their fellow students from Subotica and Novi Sad.

Medvedja – The priority of the municipality of Medvedja was to provide social care to its most vulnerable residents, so that the municipal authorities distributed 2 cubic meters of firewood to each vulnerable person in 50 households.

The Bujanovac-based department of Novi Sad University’s Faculty of Economics from Subotica has been operating since the academic 2011/12 year. The classes at the said department are held in both Serbian and Albanian. The aforementioned department was opened with the support of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Government of the AP (Autonomous Province) of Vojvodina, Novi Sad University, the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities and the OSCE Mission to Serbia. 94 students with the Serbian, Albanian and other ethnic backgrounds enrolled in it.

Bujanovac – Bratislav Lazarevic, Secretary of the Red Cross branch office in Bujanovac, said that the local self-government in the said municipality had failed to financially assist the operation of the soup kitchen, which prepares and hands out 1,290 meals for the poorest on a daily basis.

In yesterday’s rescue operation, members of the Department for Emergency Situations rescued Bozidar Nikolic from the village of Macedonce, which is situated in the municipality of Medvedja. Mr. Nikolic had been snowed-in and cut off from the rest of the world for a whole month, while he had run out of food and medicine seven days before being rescued. Firefighters from Medvedja, who had waded through the snowdrifts for hours, brought him food packages and medicine.
