STUDENTS WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HEALTH CENTER BECAUSE OF TEAR GAS0

Presevo – Director of the Health Center in Presevo, Mitat Sahiti, said on Friday that 17 secondary school students had been transported to the Presevo health facility due to respiratory disorders, which were most likely caused by tear gas triggered on the school bus.

Mr. Sahiti said that the children, accompanied by their parents, had been admitted to the health facility at around 8 pm on Thursday. They were treated with infusion solutions.

Due to lack of beds, the outpatient maternity ward, which has 12 beds but which isn’t operational due to lack of staff, was used for the first time.

“The incident occurred after the second shift of school children had returned by bus from Presevo to the villages of Alidjerce, Reljane and Bustranje. On the outskirts of the village of Alidjerce, when the bus stopped, probably a student sprayed some spray, the contents of which are yet to be determined by the competent authorities, which caused scuffle on the bus and respiratory disorder,” Mr. Sahiti said.

Director of the Health Center in Presevo indicated that due to the large number of patients, all the ambulance teams and technicians were mobilized and were on standby in case there was a need to transport the children to larger health centers.

“The children had a disorder of the airways, cramps, vomiting and nausea. They were all treated with oxygen and infusion solutions and were all, after midnight, upon improvement of their condition, released home.  No one, so far, has reappeared at the health center, which means that their condition is certainly good,”  Mr. Sahiti said.
