The SELMA (social and emotional learning for mutual awareness) project, is a two-year project co-funded by the European Commission, which aims to tackle the problem of online hate speech through the promotion of mutual awareness, tolerance and respect.
The SELMA project calls upon young people (15 to 18 years old) from across Europe to team up with each other, involving at least one adult (a teacher, youth worker, parent or other career). Applicants need to put forward an innovative idea to prevent or remediate online hate speech. This can range from concrete technological solutions (a platform, a mobile app or a new type of design standard), to better counselling and reporting mechanisms, education programs, awareness campaigns, or any other ground-breaking strategy applicants can think of.
Send your team's idea and get the chance to be invited to the "Hacking Hate" event, taking place at the Facebook Digital Learning Centre in Berlin on December 5 and 6, 2018!
The application deadline is September 20, 2018.
