CALL FOR THE ANNUAL MEDIA AWARD FOR TOLERANCE (DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 5, 2017)

On the occasion of the International Day of Tolerance, the Commissioner for Protection of Equality, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, grants the annual media award for best media articles and reports on combating discrimination and promoting equality and tolerance. 

On the occasion of the International Day of Tolerance, the Commissioner for Protection of Equality, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, grants the annual media award for best media articles and reports on combating discrimination and promoting equality and tolerance. The call is aimed at promoting the values ​​of the media, such as equality, tolerance, combating prejudices and stereotypes against minority, marginalized and vulnerable groups, as well as at raising the visibility of the Commissioner.

Eligible to apply are male and female journalists of all print and electronic media, local and national media registered in Serbia, who have published articles on the theme of the call in the period from  September 5, 2016 to September 5, 2017.

The criteria by which applicants will be evaluated are the following: recognizing the phenomenon of discrimination, contribution to reducing stereotypes and prejudices, positive media coverage, the promotion of equality and the use of gender-sensitive language.

Radio and TV programs lasting no longer than 3 minutes, as well as reports lasting 30 minutes at the most, shall be taken into consideration.  

The media articles and reports should be e-mailed to poverenik@ravnopravnost.gov.rs in the period from June 5 to September 5, 2017.  The application should include the media article and a brief biography with the male/female author’s contact info. The entry format: for radio and television – the link of the broadcast program, for print and Internet media – the link and the published article in PDF. 

The winners of the first prize will visit one of the European media outlets that has a good practice in reporting on human rights.
