Bujanovac – Bujanovac proclaimed May 9 as the Day of the Municipality, which is the date that belongs to everyone and which symbolically demonstrates our commitment to the European values. Today, the day of the city will be observed by day-long activities organized by the local self- government, "said Rahim Salihi, the Chief of Staff of the Bujanovac Mayor’s Office.  

Mr. Salihi said for the “Beta” news agency that they had planned, in honor of Europe Day, which was also the Day of the Municipality, to hold a ceremonial session of the Bujanovac Municipal Assembly, during which a letter of thanks would be awarded to the EU Delegation to Serbia, which, through its programs, had greatly contributed to the development of the municipality.  

"We chose the 9th of May as the Day of the Municipality of Bujanovac to show that we, as a local self-government, strive to become part of the European Union one day. Also, that day is for us the possibility to develop the municipality, the possibility to achieve a better life for our citizens, as well as to fulfill our aspiration to the European values, "Mr. Salihi said.

He said that children of school and pre-school age, for which the municipality had provided a huge cake that the children themselves would have to cut, were included in the planned full-day activities to mark the Day of the Municipality and Europe Day.  

Bujanovac has been observing Europe Day as the Day of the Municipality since 2012, when it received approval for it from the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government. Also, on May 9, one can usually hear the Ode to Joy played in Bujanovac, which is the unofficial musical symbol of the EU.
