Bujanovac –  According to the order of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, based on which the procedure for naming streets in the places where they have not been named so far, around 250 streets in the municipality of Bujanovac should get their names for the first time, said Seljami Mustafa, the Chairman of the Municipal Steet Naming Commission. 

Mr. Mustafa said that the largest number of streets in the city of Bujanovac would be named for the first time, 72 of them, as well as those in Veliki Trnovac, where a total of 55 streets should get their names.  

“These streets never had their names, while the addresses of the people who live in them were without numbers. When it comes to the municipality of Bujanovac, only the town of Bujanovac has had street names so far, while the streets in all other places did not have any names, " Mr. Mustafa said.  

He said that the local self-government was consulting the local community leaders about the selection of street names. The local community leaders were tasked with discussing the issue with the locals, as well as with submitting the list of the suggested street names in their places.  

“So far, we have not received any proposals from the local community representatives. I do not expect any problems with street name proposals, since everyone knows that they should be acceptable to the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, "Mr. Mustafa said.

According to him, there is a "positive list of street names" submitted to the municipal commission by the line ministry, with the names that are not controversial and for which it is certain that they will be accepted.

“We have received the list, but only the name Bekkim Fehmiu, who was an actor, is on the list of Albanian names, while it is certain that the Albanians will propose the names related to the Albanian history and culture for the streets in which they live, " Mr. Mustafa said.

According to him, what kind of names will the streets in Bujanovac get, as well as those in in all the surrounding areas, will be decided by the Municipal Council for Interethnic Relations, which should give its opinion on the proposals, but also by the National Council of Albanians, which has such a right in the municipalities where the Albanian language, too, is officially used.
