A NEW TYPE OF MUSHROOM FROM SOUTH SERBIA

Bujanovac – Goran Stamenkovic from the village of Zbevac, who is the oldest mushroom-grower from the municipality of Bujanovac, has recently delivered a new kind of mushroom, the imperial mushroom, on the market of South Serbia.

Bujanovac – Goran Stamenkovic from the village of Zbevac, who is the oldest mushroom-grower from the municipality of Bujanovac, has recently delivered a new kind of mushroom, the imperial mushroom, on the market of South Serbia.

“I picked the first yield of one hundred test briquettes of imperial button mushrooms 15 days ago. No one before me has ever produced this kind of mushroom in the Jablanica and Pcinj districts. I sold all the picked mushrooms in no time, even though that kind of mushroom is new on the local market. Unlike plain, white button mushrooms, which I have been growing since 2000, the imperial button mushroom is meaty, contains a lower percentage of water, has a different taste and lasts longer, "Goran said.

Over the past week, Goran was selling white mushrooms at the open market. He was among the first mushroom-growers in South Serbia, who were, then, very rare in that region.  He says that one could live well from mushroom-growing. Goran’s current capacity of mushroom-growing on his family farm in Zbevac is one thousand blocks (pieces of compost), where he cultivates white mushrooms.

Apart from the the local market, a part of the yield is sold in neighboring Macedonia. This hardworking farm owner also says that he has recently planted rosehips and sloes on his farm, so that in addition to mushrooms, he also deals with producing pulp and jams from this high-quality and highly demanded fruit.
