Medvedja – Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, hosted a Christmas reception for representatives of the Serbian cultural community "Saint Sava" from the city of Valdanjo in Italy, which he, along with his associates, recently visited and established first contacts.

During the reception, it was proposed that the Diaspora’s Committee should consider the option of collecting donations for decorating the interior of churches in Medvedja with icons.

“Those who go outside the borders of their country are important bridges between countries.  Thanks to their knowledge, ideas, experiences and contacts, they bring sustainable changes and can help their home countries and municipalities of origin in various manners, "said Mayor Arsic, who received the Serbs from Italy in his office.

Miodrag Jankovic, the leader of the aforementioned community, said that such meetings reinforced relations between the homeland and the diaspora, adding that that meeting was a sign that the linking of the Serbian associations could contribute to the improvement and a better perspective of the local self-government. He pointed out at the reception that that was a sign that the home country’s interest in the work of the diaspora was growing and that the cooperation would be be much stronger and better in the future. 

Also agreed at the meeting was the gathering of the diaspora, which is traditionally held in the first week of August under the title of "Medvedja Communal Meetings.”
