BUJANOVAC SPA BECOMES A TEMPORARY HOSPITAL, RESPIRATORS ARE ALSO ARRIVING

Bujanovac – The Special Hospital in Bujanovac Spa will become a temporary hospital for the admission of the infected with the coronavirus.

Bujanovac – The Special Hospital in Bujanovac Spa will become a temporary hospital for the admission of the infected with the coronavirus.

The capacity of the said institution will no longer be used only for isolating returnees from abroad or a short-term quarantine.  Over the last few days, the Special Hospital has been intensively preparing for the admission of patients diagnosed with COVID-19, modeled by the Belgrade Fairgrounds and the “Cair” Sports Hall in Nis.

Marjan Tomic, the chief medical technician at the institution, could not confirm the re-use of the hospital on Tuesday, but he did say that Bujanovac Spa was being supplied daily with protective equipment and even respirators.

“Special equipment arrives at the Special Hospital.  We are getting one respirator today, while it has been announced that several more will arrive. We are getting prepared and are waiting for further instructions from the Ministry, "Mr. Tomic says.

The re-use of Bujanovac Spa may be linked to a decision of the Serbian Government to ban home treatment, so that all those that are positive for the coronavirus will be treated in hospitals. Those without any symptoms or with a mild clinical picture will be treated in temporary hospitals, and those with a more severe clinical picture in COVID hospitals.

There are currently no isolated citizens in Bujanovacka Spa. Since March 26, when the Government of Serbia reached a decision on establishing quarantine, 15 returnees from abroad have been staying at the Special Hospital. Their results of the coronavirus tests were negative, so that they are currently in self-isolation.  It is still unknown if the Spa will continue to be a quarantine as well.

The capacity of the Special Hospital is 180 beds.

By Tuesday, three cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the municipality of Bujanovac, while 1,144 persons were in self-isolation.
