Bujanovac – The Chief -of -Staff of the Serbian Army, General Ljubisa Dikovic, said yesterday at the military base in Dobrosin, which is situated near Bujanovac, that a joint international military exercise would soon be held in South Serbia, adding that cooperation with the KFOR was "remarkable”.

“The Serbian Army has been taking part in the international military exercises both in Serbia and ,together with its partners, outside Serbia for a long time.  The plan is to do a joint exercise with the marine forces of the European and US Command, which will include partner countries from the region, such as Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and Macedonia. The exercise is aimed at strengthening the collective capacities in emergency conditions. It will be carried out in the southern part of central Serbia, at the “Jug” military base, and it has to do with the third mission tasks, "said General Dikovic.

He explained that the "third mission" referred to the assistance provided to the vulnerable population during natural disasters and terrorist attacks, as well as in compromised security and safety conditions.

General Diković also said that cooperation with the KFOR was "excellent".

The Army of Serbia, together with the KFOR and the Serbian security forces, which control this area, undertake the activities related to the Military-Technical Agreement and Resolution 1244.

“Cooperation isn’t achieved only at the top level, but also at the lowest one, "said General Dikovic.

“We annually undertake over 300 joint activities at all levels. We decide on every possible move on the basis of our assessment, which is the basis for the joint undertaking of measures on both sides of the administrative line, "he said.

General Dikovic, in the presence of the Minister of Defense Bratislav Gasic, presented Colonel Dino Brown of the Ohio National Guard with a letter of thanks for the successful cooperation between the two armies.

The commander of the Fourth Army Brigade, Brigadier General Zoran Lubura, acquainted Minister Gasic and General Dikovic with the task of securing 117 kilometers of the administrative line with Kosovo and Metohija and of controlling 505 km2 of the ground security zone.

He said that members of the said brigade put a great deal of effort into the activities related to the civil-military cooperation, which range from road construction, firefighting, water supply in dry periods and the provision of medical assistance to the population in remote areas. He pointed out that cooperation with the population, regardless of their national and religious backgrounds, was excellent.
