Belgrade – The Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) organization completed the demining and clearance of cluster munitions in the municipality of Bujanovac, where it cleared an area of over 825,000 square meters, found and destroyed 93 units of cluster munitions and seven other unexploded ordnance.
Belgrade – The Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) organization completed the demining and clearance of cluster munitions in the municipality of Bujanovac, where it cleared an area of over 825,000 square meters, found and destroyed 93 units of cluster munitions and seven other unexploded ordnance.
The financial resources for the implementation of the programme of clearing cluster munitions in the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Kursumlija was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway. In accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation with Serbia, the program was carried out by the NPA organization, in cooperation with the Demining Center of Serbia.
The operations in the municipality of Presevo began in late April 2011, while they were completed in April 2012. The works in Kursumlija began in May 2012 and lasted until mid-April 2013, while the clearance of cluster munitions was performed in the municipality of Bujanovac in the period from April 20 until mid-October 2013.
Overall, NPA cleared in in Presevo, Bujanovac and Kursumlija an area of 2,705, 119 square meters, found and destroyed 869 pieces of cluster munitions and 711 pieces of unexploded ordnance.
